Programs & Projects
Public Space Initiatives:
The objective is to initiate infrastructure and placemaking improvements across parks and public spaces to balance urban development with natural ecosystems. These efforts aim to shape the public realm, preserve the riverfront, and create healthier, more resilient, and equitable spaces that connect people to the places they share.
Emblem Park
This project is a collaborative effort fully funded through a partnership between the BID, Barracks Row Main Street, and individual condo owners in Emblem to transform the space into a vibrant, well-maintained public area that enhances the surrounding community.
2nd Street Underpass / BridgeSpot
The 2nd Street Underpass Activation Project is a transformative, multi-phase initiative designed to reimagine the underpass as a safe, collaborative, and connected community space. This effort aligns with broader infrastructure improvements led by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). A secondary component of the project are improvements to the pickleball courts on the western edge of the 2nd Street Underpass. This project is in collaboration with the DC Pickleball Association and local community members. The Foundation sees the 2nd Street Underpass and BridgeSpot as a critical nexus of community in our neighborhood that has the elements to provide recreation and social opportunities that do not exist elsewhere in the neighborhood.
Buzzard Point Park
In partnership with the National Park Service, the Capitol Riverfront Parks Foundation is working to enhance and maintain Buzzard Point Park through interim improvements that activate the space and support its stewardship until permanent design plans are implemented by NPS.
